Looking for somewhere new to bike?
Can't decide between a city getaway or a retreat into nature?
Book a getaway at The Kensington and enjoy the best of both worlds in Ann Arbor and the surrounding areas!
According to local legend, Ann Arbor was named after the wives of its founders and a stand of bur oaks – or possibly a grape arbor that the lovely Anns were fond of sitting under together. Whichever version you believe, there’s no denying that Ann Arbor has carried on the founders’ love of trees and the outdoors.
With over 50,000 trees in the city, and parks ranging from neighborhood favorites to the 300-acre University of Michigan Matthaei Botanical Gardens, Ann Arbor manages to blend city and country in a near-perfect combination. What could be better than spending a day out in nature, followed by an evening of relaxation, culture, and great food in the city?
One of the best ways to experience all the area has to offer is by bike. For city rides, downtown boasts over 90 miles of bike lanes and over 900 bike parking spots. How welcoming is that?!
Not only are the downtown and campus areas bike friendly, but Ann Arbor is surrounded by excellent bike trails ranging from paved loops along the Huron River to woods and wetlands for mountain bikers of every experience level.
Here Are Some Local Favorites:
Nearly 40 acres and trails accessible from North Main St, the park includes wooded ravines, a prairie area, and trails described as “rugged.”

A Border-to-Border trailhead, Bandemer Park is a 38-acre nature park on the Huron River. It’s also home to Ann Arbor’s only dirt bike jump course – if you’re feeling extra adventurous!
